Jana's Story

Faith - the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Jana Jackson has learned that living by faith is a minute by minute, day by day process. She, perhaps more than most, had to develop a faith in “the evidence of things not seen” at a very early age.

Raised in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Jana has been singing before audiences since the age of four. A sought-after performer in her teens, her freshman year in college saw the release of her debut album,
Face To Face. Since then she has released six more recordings, appeared frequently on Christian television networks, and toured in the United States and abroad. Along the way, she found time to earn a Bachelor of Commercial Music degree from Belmont University.

Jana's busy personal appearance schedule has taken her throughout much of the United States, into three Canadian provinces, and to several European countries, including Wales, Holland, Ukraine and Russia. She has made numerous appearances on the PTL Inspirational Network and on other prominent Christian television stations, including Channel 38
in Chicago, Illinois, Channel 22 in Clearwater, Florida, and Channel 50 in Kansas City, Kansas.

Spending a day with Jana at her home in Brentwood, Tennessee would prove to be an interesting time to say the least. She would probably show you her book collection, her ‘talking’ computer and other mechanical gadgets, and cook you a big meal- Southern Style! What makes this so unique? Jana is totally blind and has been since birth. So, her books are in Braille, her computer talks to make it more blind friendly, and each item in her kitchen is labeled in Braille to make cooking less of a challenge.

Jana jokingly refers to her blindness not as a handicap, but as a “technical difficulty.” “We all have technical difficulties”, she explains, “but some of them are easier to hide than others. I don't think that blindness is the only technical difficulty I have, and it certainly isn’t the only one that I will have to overcome. It just happens to be the one that is most obvious to people who come in contact with me.” She continues, "I don't dwell on my blindness, but I don't try to pretend that it doesn't exist either. It's a part of me that people are naturally curious about. I hope that when people get to know me, they’ll be able to look past it, to see that it’s only a small part of me and not the total picture of who I am.”

Jana’s musical accomplishments have not been limited to her solo career. For nearly ten years, she was a dedicated member of the internationally acclaimed Christ Church Choir of Nashville, Tennessee. She has been a featured soloist on many of the choir’s recordings and videos, performing songs such as “Lift Up Holy Hands,” “Faith Moves God,” and most recently, “For Every Mountain”.

Through her affiliation with the choir, Jana has performed in concert in many places across the country, including the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California and annual appearances at the Praise Gathering in Indianapolis, Indiana, sponsored by Bill Gaither. “I was blessed to be a part of a ministry that God is using in such a powerful way,” says Jana. “He has blessed my involvement with the choir, and it’s an awesome extension of the ministry that He has given me.”

When asked what she wants to accomplish through that ministry, Jana’s answer is simple: “When I sing, I want to share what I have found to be Truth. Like everyone else, I’ve had my share of struggles with feelings of uncertainty and hopelessness, but I’ve also found that there is a joy and a peace that we can know even in the darkest times of our lives. Through faith, determination, and a personal relationship with Christ, we can overcome every ‘technical difficulty’ that we may face."
